The Great Shark Adventure: Part One

A Magic School Bus Story summarized and re-written  by
Mrs. Ronmark's Grade 2/3 and Mr. DeVuono's Grade 4/5 students

Chapter 1

By Charlotte, Lakisha, Thomas, Nicole, Sam and Yvonne

Ms. Frizzle announced that her class was going to do a sea report. The kids in her class were trying to decide on a topic for their sea reports. "I want to do kelp," said Arnold. "It's nice and boring." "You can't do kelp, silly it isn't a sea animal!" giggled Keesha. In came Ms. Frizzle. She said they were going to the aquarium. Arnold was excited because all the animals would be in tanks and that made him feel very safe. Ms. Frizzle began to talk about the creatures that would be at the aquarium. She said that some of the kids might want to do their report on a shark seeing as how there are so many different kinds. Ralphie asked if sharks were related to whales and dolphins. The Frizz talked a little bit about sharks but said that they would learn more at the aquarium. The kids piled into the bus and they took off to the aquarium.

Chapter 2

By Alex, James, Emma, Dalton, Steven, Senya and Kelsey

The Magic school bus drove along. I wanted to do my report on a nice fish, not a shark. Ms.Frizzle parked in a parking lot by a beach. The kids saw that the Blue Water Aquarium overflowed. Trucks with big hoses were sucking up the water. A tall, bushy haired man came walking out of the aquarium building. He had round glasses and a fish shaped neck tie. The man walked to the bus and the Frizz opened the door.

“Kids ,”said Ms.Frizzle, “This is Mr. Hill the director of the aquarium.”

“I’m sorry, Ms.Frizzle,” said Mr. Hill. “I’ve got bad news.

“What happened Mr. Hill?” asked Ms.Frizzle.

“The dolphins were playing with a rubber ball and it got stuck in the drainpipe. The tank and the aquarium overflowed. We have to close for the day, so we can clean up the mess,” replied Mr. Hill.

I was relieved that I didn’t have to get close to a shark, but I had a bad feeling because, Ms.Frizzle got that twinkle in her eye. Ms.Frizzle said,” I think I have a solution to this problem.” “Climb aboard Mr. Hill.” In a few seconds the bus transformed into a helicopter.

“What’s going on?” screamed Mr. Hill.

“Don’t worry you’re on the magic school b-helicopter, this kind of thing happens a lot.”

The magic school helicopter flew over the water.  “Where are we going, Ms.Frizzle ?” asked Phoebe.

Ms.Frizzle hit a few buttons a the dash board. This made the helicopter sink into the ocean. The Magic School Helicopter changed into a submarine. The submarine went down deep and started to shrink. Now the sub was two feet long. Everything looked gigantic.  “There’s something scary about this field trip,” I groaned.

“I think it’s going to be fantastic,” shouted Mr. Hill.

Ralphie asked,” Is there any chance we’ll see a shark?”  My heart pumped faster and I hoped the answer was no.

Mr. Hill said,” It is possible because many sharks live in this area.”

“Cool,” said Keesha. “We learned there are over 300 kinds of sharks.”
