ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

By Ashley and Reina

Come,
Take a Walk
With Us
 Through
Our School

When we first  walk into our lobby,  we see some enjoyable benches with some green plants in the sides of the benches. To our right is the office, with lots of glass windows on two sides.

The first thing that catches the eye is the snow-capped mountains framed by the big windows, high up at the end of the main hall. At over 7000 feet, Thompson Mountain towers over the school.

At the end of the hall, the computer lab invites us to learn about the wide world beyond our small town.

Then we see the library with a friendly round reading corner, welcoming us with lots and lots of books, pillows, and stuffed animals. Whenever I sit in there I feel really cozy and safe.

Students relax on comfy cushions, listening to a story inside our red, barn-shaped Library reading corner.
Our library is wonderful place, completely visible from the main hall, because the wall is made of glass.  Inside, high ceilings and lots of bright windows, round tables and carefully displayed books invite all students to read and learn.
Then we see the foyer widen.  Here are some benches for kids to sit on.  This is also where the trophy case is kept.  It has some pictures of our great flag football teams and floor hockey teams, as well as plaques for checker tournaments, basketball free throw, and house team championships. We also have some trophies for remote control car rallies, Kootenay Ice Kings, floor hockey tournaments, and much much more. This wide foyer area invites students to relax and chat.  In the morning, many children have breakfast here, supplied by our free breakfast program.  Throughout the day, students use this area to work in small groups, to practice their recorders, or read quietly.

As we walk down the hallway a little further, we see bulletin boards displaying our wonderful art work and creative writing. Big high windows and glass doors at the end of both the primary and intermediate hallways give us lots of light.
What we’ve told you is only a small part of what makes our school really special. We hope that we will visit us some time and see for yourself how wonderful our school is.

Some students from the grade 6 class have been doing a survey about Erickson School. We asked everyone the same question. What do you like the best about Erickson School? Here are some of the answers we got from the staff and students:

o        I like coming to work each day and seeing all the great staff and students. (Mrs. Brucker, Grade 7 teacher)

o        I like the students at Erickson School and I like my job…but the students are number one (Mrs. Fleck, secretary)

o        I like that we have a lot of school activities like sports and science fairs and the P.E. sessions because we get a good work out (a couple of students)

o        I like how the students get to help the teachers pick what we do each day and I like how everybody’s respectful to each other and that we can work together and accomplish things together. Students from grade six.

o        I feel safe coming to Erickson School I don’t have to worry about coming to school and being put down. And all of my friends go to Erickson School. (Two students from grade 6)

o        We have lots of books to choose from.  (student)

o        We have the best computer lab – lots of computers.  (primary student)

o        Our gym is really big, with lots of room to run in our PE classes.  (student)

o        Our teachers are really nice.  (primary student)

o        I like that I get to play with all the kids at our school.  (primary student)

Now you know why the students and the staff love Erickson School.
